Community Council & Election Committee

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Sanskriti is managed by a Board of Directors made up of members of our community who provide voluntary service. Being a member of the Board is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. We request you to volunteer your services as a Board Member, so Sanskriti may continue to serve the Bengali community of Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The following four of the current nine members of Sanskriti's Board of Directors will complete their two-year term on December 31, 2009, and will be replaced by four new members. Each new Board member is expected to serve a two-year term, starting January 1, 2010.

We invite all Sanskriti members to either nominate themselves or other members, to join the Board for a two-year term. To be eligible, an individual must be a current member of Sanskriti in good standing (either Life or Annual). If you are nominating an individual other than yourself, please make sure he/she is willing to serve in the Board for a two-year term. The new Sanskriti office bearers, namely President, Secretary, and Treasurer, will be elected directly by members of the new Board prior to the Annual General Body Meeting on December 06, 2009. For the office of the President, the candidate must have been a member of the Board of Directors for at least one year.

ELECTION COMMITTEE
The Sanskriti Community Council has appointed the following individuals to the 2009 Election Committee, which is responsible for administering the nomination process and conducting elections:

COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Sanskriti Community Council, which is an advisory body to assist in maintaining the organizational integrity and continuity of Sanskriti, is composed of five members, each serving for five years. The current members of the Community Council are:

Sikhin Mitra (Chairman for 2009)
Gopa Motayed (Chairman Elect for 2010)
Minati Dutta
Somnath Som
Pradyot Neogy

Mr. Sikhin Mitra, the current Chairperson, will be retiring from the Council at the end of 2009, and a new member will be elected to the Council for a five-year term starting January 1, 2010. To be eligible for nomination and election as Council member, a person must have been a member of the Board of Directors for at least a full term of one year during a period not less than two years prior to 2009. The person must also have been a member of Sanskriti in good standing for not less than five years in aggregate before 2009.

Written nominations for Board of Directors and/or Community Council, with name, address and telephone number and email address of the nominee, must be sent to the Sanskriti Election Committee either by email or regular mail.

Nominations are not accepted over telephone. All nominations must reach by October 20th, 2009. In case of more than one nomination, elections will be held by mail ballots, which will be sent to all current Sanskriti members.
